Interventions Issues for Children with Autism
Following a child’s diagnosis, the next questions parents usually ask are about the optimal services for their child to promote communication, social, cognitive and behavioral development. The recommendations of various teachers, therapists, physicians and psychologists is often confusing and can be a bit intimidating. Assumptions behind developmental and behavioral interventions are discussed as well as naturalistic or sometimes called “incidental” teaching approaches. THe use of visual schedules and particular challenges of non-verbal children are discussed.
